Santa Honorata, 40, lives with her husband, two children and her parents in her parents’ house in the district of Huaraz. She tells us that her family would like to be able to move out of her parents’ home. As a child, she watched her parents’ work in their mill. At 30, Santa came up with the idea of selling flour made out of the different grains that are processed on the mill (quinoa, fava beans, barley, flaxseed and others.) Now Santa and her husband works shoulder to shoulder at the market selling the different kinds of flour.
Her business show progress, and she already has customers that look for her products and missed her when she does not come to the market. Besides selling informally at the market, Santa participates in state bids to provide flour, which requires her flour to meet quality standards. Santa is a member of the communal bank “Santa Catalina de Monterreyâ€. With this loan of 1,500 soles, to be paid back in 6 months, Santa will purchase 15 sack of wheat to stock her growing business.
